As part of the national 100 Radon Test Kit Challenge, Oliver participated in a community-wide radon testing initiative during the winter of 2024. A total of 100 test kits were distributed to households, and 83 kits were returned with completed long-term radon tests, representing approximately 4% of local dwellings.
Key Findings:
47% of homes tested above Health Canada's guideline of 200 Bq/m³
10.8% of homes had radon levels exceeding 1000 Bq/m³
The average radon level in Oliver was 440 Bq/m³, with a high of 5600 Bq/m³
These results highlight the importance of radon awareness and mitigation in our region. Radon is the leading cause of lung cancer in non-smokers, and testing is the only way to know your home’s radon level.
