Weigh-In on Municipal Voting in BC
The Town of Oliver Council wants to ensure local residents have a say in updating the provincial legislation governing local elections. Town staff are facilitating input to form the Town of Oliver recommendations to the Local Government Elections Task Force.
The Task Force is reviewing specific issues related to local government elections. Topics under review include: • Campaign finance, including contribution/spending disclosure and limits, and tax credits • Enforcement processes and outcomes • Role of the chief election office (B.C.) in local government elections • Election cycle (term of office) • Corporate vote • Other matters, such as those raised in the Union of B.C. Municipalities resolutions
The Town of Oliver will submit its recommendations to the Task Force and would like to hear from you. If you wish to have your comments reviewed by Council, please send written comments to the Corporate Officer or drop off comments at the Town Hall, 35016 97th Street, or mail P.O. Box 638, Oliver, B.C., V0H 1T0 prior to March 30, 2010.
The Town of Oliver also encourages residents to provide feedback in writing to directly to the Task Force. Recommendations can be emailed to localelectionstaskforce@gov.bc.ca, faxed to 250-387-7972, or mailed to Local Government Elections Task Force, c/o Ministry of Community and Rural Development, PO Box 9839 Stn Prov Govt., Victoria, B.C., V8W 9T1. Deadline for comment submissions to the Task Force is April 15, 2010.
